Hello all.
I sailed the final prototypes so these thoughts might be helpful for any interested people. The inset clew as Dan has designed it provides several things. Firstly the sail has become lighter in the hands compared to the Vapor 09 sails I tried even though the power has been clearly increased. The overall range of the sail is better especially in the underpowered arena, which Is where I thought the 09 sails I tried struggled a lot. The inset clew makes the main sail breaking point have a steeper angle, which creates a softer feeling and more lift compared to the longer boom configuration of the 09 sails. The smaller head and lower aspect outline is simply more efficient, more than 50% of the drag on a windsurfing sail comes from the mast tip vortex, as with the wing of a plane, so reducing area up top can only help provide better acceleration in the gusts and more efficiency in the lulls. The lower aspect ratio that the inset clew enables keeps the center of effort lower so in this way the sail becomes easier to handle. The draft in the 09 sails was locked too far forward in my opinion, the 010 sails have a cleaner, more gradual foil that will keep the board on the fin better and continue to give lift when one needs it the most. Compared to the 09 sails, there is really not much comparison, the 010 Vapor will be a better performer in every category. How the new sail performs against the other sails on the market is yet to be seen, things will become clear soon.Finian Newbie
